Questions about Lamaze?
Is Lamaze Right for Me?
Lamaze is a childbirth education philosophy that emphasizes a natural, healthy approach to labor and birth. It empowers women with knowledge and tools to trust their bodies and make informed decisions throughout the childbirth process.
I am learning about childbirth online: Do I still need a class? Online resources can be informative, but they cannot answer your specific questions or address your unique concerns. In your Lamaze class, you will have a certified instructor who can provide personalized guidance, answer your questions in real-time, and offer emotional support. This interaction is invaluable, especially as your pregnancy progresses and you start to have more specific questions.
What will I learn in Lamaze class? Lamaze covers a wide range of topics related to labor, birth, and early parenthood. You'll learn about the physiology of labor, comfort measures and pain management techniques (both with and without medication), relaxation and breathing exercises, and effective communication with your healthcare team. Classes also cover potential interventions and informed decision-making, the role of your support person, postpartum care and newborn basics.

Will my partner learn how to coach me? Lamaze classes focus on equipping your support person with the tools to provide continuous emotional and physical support. This might include massage, comfort techniques, and encouragement, but it's not about being a "coach."
Does Lamaze mean I can't have an epidural? Absolutely not! Lamaze supports informed decision-making. You'll learn about your options for pain relief, including epidurals, and how to weigh the benefits and risks to make the best choice for you.

When should I take a Lamaze class? Most classes are taken in the third trimester, ideally between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. This allows time for you to practice and integrate Lamaze into your birth plan and ensures the information is fresh in your mind as your due date approaches.
Lamaze : The oldest and most widely used birth preparation method in the world.
